Last minute prep work

Just turned off twitter updates so I won't have to pay the 25 cents per text message (typical internation rate).  I'm happy to pay for text messages from friends, but not so much twitter.  When I get on the first plane I'll turn data off on my phone.  Hope I don't forget as those international data charges would run into the thousands!

Also deleting all the old pictures off my camera cards after backing them up on the home computer - uh, yeah.  I could have done this long ago, but didn't.

A turn in the road

OK- we've already hit a snag.  The boat we chartered for the first week has canceled.  Amazingly 9 of the original 16 for this first leg are still going with the hope of hiring another boat once we arrive.  The trip stories and adventure has already started and I haven't left home yet!  So we've gone from 16 people willing to fly to the other side of the world to visit uninhabited islands to 10 people (we had one add-on) willing to fly to the other side of the world to visit uninhabited islands AND we don't yet have a boat.  Now that is hard-core!

Shots! The prep work continues...

All countries have been reviewed for disease potential and the following shots and medicines have been received:
Typhoid
Tetanus/Pertussis (aka whooping cough)
Flu
Malaria mediation - this seems to be an issue at just one place I'll be visiting

The Prep Work

What could possibly go wrong.....

Well, that's exactly what I'm trying to figure out today so I can prevent it as much as possible.  One thing I'd like to avoid is arriving at the airport and not being allowed to board because my paper work is not in order.

Passport valid?  Check!
Are visas needed for countries being traveled to?  Most either do not require a visa or you get the visa on arrival.  India is the exception.  This is in advance and, get this, India has outsourced their visa applications.  It's great to see they really embraced the concept!  And then there is Indonesia....  if you fly in on a round trip ticket - no visa needed.  If you fly in and leave by land it -appears- that no visa is needed, but no one seems to be able to tell me for sure.  As their visa application is very complicated I think I will fly in and out rather than deal with it.  I'd kind of hoped to go overland at that point but it's not worth the hassle.

So Visas....  Check!
